Jacksonville resident Jacqueline Mombrun is the newly crowned Miss Juneteenth ENC 2024, according to a Tuesday press release. At 16 years old, she is a contemporary classical pianist, an advocate for children with disabilities, and a scholar student. Mombrun lives in Jacksonville and has a 4.
0 GPA. She was diagnosed as deaf/hard of hearing at age five, and her dream is to become a runway model and to further advocate for the DHH community. The release said she helped to found a company that assists teens with autism and also serves on the Jacksonville Youth Council and the Onslow County Commission for Disability Advocacy.
Mombrun and four other teens competed for the title on June 9 at the Boys and Girls Club Teen Center on Queen Street in New Bern. They were scored by a panel of judges in four categories: written essay, formal wear, Q & A and essay reading. The second annual Miss Juneteenth ENC Pageant was sponsored by Valentina Wilson's Teen Fashion Academy and emceed by WCTI News12 anchor Valentina Wilson, who started the Fashion Academy 11 years ago to promote confidence and self-esteem in girls, the release explained.
Justice Williams, of New Bern, claimed the Miss Teen Fashion Academy title. Trinity Kearney, of Craven County, won the Princess title. Constance Jefferson, of New Bern, was named Miss Spokesmodel, and Marryeonnia Cherry, of Craven County, was named Miss Photogenic.
