The Ministry of Health has pledged to expedite the clearance of a significant backlog of medical supplies, including mosquito nets, currently stuck at the Tema port. This delay has raised serious concerns among health organizations, which argue that the prolonged hold-up is detrimental to public health efforts, particularly in combating malaria. The delay in clearing these supplies has been attributed to administrative bottlenecks and inefficiencies.
Health organizations have threatened protests to expedite the process, emphasizing the urgent need for these supplies in various health facilities across the country. “The delay in clearing these medical supplies is unacceptable and puts many lives at risk,” said a spokesperson for one of the health organizations. “We urge the Ministry to take immediate action to resolve this issue.
” In response, the Ministry of Health has assured that efforts are underway to clear the backlog promptly. Health Minister Kwaku Agyemang-Manu stated, “We are working closely with the Ghana Revenue Authority and other stakeholders to ensure that these essential medical supplies are released and distributed as soon as possible.” The Ministry’s pledge to expedite the clearance process comes as the country faces ongoing public health challenges, including malaria, which remains a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in Ghana.
Timely distribution of mosquito nets and other medical supplies is crucial in combating this and other health.
