Dr Michael Mosley, who is currently missing in Greece, is best known for his medical expertise - but he initially pursued a very different career in his younger years. The 67-year-old, who has inspired countless fans with his accessible health advice, has proved that a person can change course in life multiple times if their current situation isn't quite the right fit - even if others warn them otherwise. Many of those who've found Michael's nutrition advice to be life-changing have now expressed concern after the well-liked TV doctor vanished on the beautiful island of Symi amid extreme heat warnings.

As the desperate search continues, the Mirror takes a look at Michael's career before he became a household name and trusted diet expert. Born in Calcutta, India, Michael was educated at English boarding schools from the age of seven onwards and went on to study Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Oxford University. After graduation, Michael initially sought to follow in the footsteps of his father, who worked in banking both in Hong Kong and the Philippines.

After two years of working as an investment banker in the city, however, he realised he was far more interested in people than he ever was in money. Michael told the British Medical Journal: "I decided then that my primary interest in life wasn't making money for myself or other people. I was passionately interested in what makes people tick.

.. and I actually went into medicine intending to become a psychiatrist.
