Michael Ball has paid tribute to Steve Wright on his first day as he takes over from the late DJ on the long-runing Sunday Love Songs show on BBC Radio 2. West End legend Ball, 61, has taken over from Steve Wright , who had presented the show from when it first aired in 1996, until he died in February, aged 69. Sunday Love Songs features romantic songs, dedications from listeners and real life love stories.
And new host Ball made sure he acknowledged his predecessor's legacy, as he dedicated the show's 'last dance' to the esteemed Wright, whose sudden death came as a shock to his loyal listeners. It was one of Steve Wright’s favourites. So in memory of Steve, I want you to give someone a hug. Make that time for it now.
Your partner, your friend, (your) child, parent, even your pet. And if you’re on your own right now, I’m embracing you with a virtual hug. And I want to take this opportunity to thank Steve, his legacy on Radio 2 is immeasurable.
He created Love Songs, and I am so, so proud to be carrying the baton for him into the future. You are missed, friend, and this is for .
