Riviera Maya, Q.R. — For the 2024-2025 season, Mexico will have 78 beaches, two marinas and 40 sustainable tourism boats with the Blue Flag distinction.

These figures are 12 more than last year and one of which includes a new Quintana Roo site, reported the Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués. He says Mexico confirms its first place position on the continent and tenth worldwide as well as the first global position in terms of certified tourist boats. He specified that with just over 15,000 kilometers of coastline, Mexico’s beautiful beaches continue to be one of the main travel motivators for tourists.

The Secretary of Tourism pointed out that in this matter, significant progress has been made such as the implementation of Kuxatur, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program, with financing of $7.2 million dollars from the Fund for the Global Environment, applying in the La Paz-Sierra La Laguna-Los Cabos corridor in Baja California Sur, the Huatulco-Chacahua corridor in Oaxaca and Maya Ka’an in Quintana Roo. Blue Flag continues to be promoted, which since its inception, has sought, through environmental education practices, to raise awareness among tourists and residents about the relevance of ecosystems, particularly coastal ones.

He recognized the outstanding work of the Foundation for Environmental Education Mexico (FEE México), which over the years, has ensured compliance with the established standards to have beaches, marinas and boats.
