In what is being billed as a culmination of all of Atlus’ RPGs we’ve enjoyed over the years, the developers finally announced the Metaphor ReFantazio release date during the Summer Game Fest. Made by Persona devs, you can immediately recognise that brand of gameplay Atlus delivers on time and again. ReFantazio is not quite SMT or Persona, but several elements from both games are present from what we’ve seen.
The Metaphor ReFantazio release date is Friday, October 11 2024. Atlus confirmed the launch during a sneak peek at . Introducing the trailer, we got to hear from Atlus’ Shigenori Soejima and Katsura Hashino, who explained the game’s job system, referred to as Archetypes.
If there’s one thing Atlus understands, it’s RPGs. Metaphor: ReFantazio is just that, complete with turn-based combat where you transform into powerful demons or monsters based on the job you select. These jobs are referred to in-game as Archetypes, and they let you fulfil a certain role in battle.
Some are DPS, some are tanks, some are healers, you get the idea. The good news is that ReFantazio is expected to have more than 40 different archetypes in the main game, giving you plenty of customisation options for your party makeup.
