MERYL Streep has been linked to a The Devil Wears Prada Sequel 18 years after the original film premiered, and it's drawing backlash. Fans of the popular film , which debuted in theaters in June 2006, don't believe a sequel is necessary. Multiple outlets have confirmed that The Devil Wears Prada sequel is in the early stages, Puck News revealed on Monday.
Meryl , 75, is reportedly returning to the film, reprising her role as Runway editor Miranda Priestly. Emily Blunt , who played Meryl's character's assistant is also reportedly set to return. Anne Hathaway , who played Andy Sachs in The Devil Wears Prada, has not yet been confirmed.
Original producer Wendy Finerman and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna are both attached to the film, Variety reported. There is no release date at this time. A synopsis for the film reveals, "The groundbreaking sequel is set to focus on Miranda, as she faced the decline of the once prosperous magazine's publishing business.
"In fact, the only person who can bail her out is her former assistant, Blunt's character Emily Charlton, who is now a high-powered executive at a luxury fashion group." On X, formerly Twitter , fans delivered mixed reactions to the news. "Nothing will ever top the first on [crying emoji]," one critic posted.
"This could be a sweet dream or beautiful nightmare. Either way I..
. will be watching," a second commented. No way.
..," a third complained.
"Do we need it though," another skeptic wondered. The Devil Wears Prada premiered.
