More than two weeks after being crowned Miss Alabama 2024, Auburn University nursing student Abbie Stockard said she's looking forward to using her position to give back to her community. Entering her senior year, Stockard has spent the last three years at AU balancing nursing school, the Tiger Paws dance team and Miss Alabama competitions. The 21-year-old strives to leave her mark on the the community as Miss Alabama 2024, a title she earned on June 29.
"I had to make a lot of sacrifices — like times I wanted to hang out with my friends — but I knew my end goal. I wanted to be Miss Alabama. I wanted to be successful in nursing school while also doing Tiger Paws," Stockard said.
"When you have that end goal in mind, you just do everything you can to make it work." Stockard grew up watching Miss Alabama and Miss America competitions with her mother who also competed in Miss Alabama pageants. She was always interested in beauty pageants, but could never find the time to pursue them.
Stockard got involved with Miss Alabama for the first time during her freshman year at AU. She heard that the winner of Miss Auburn would earn free tuition for a year, which pushed her to reconsider competitions. With her twin brother also at Auburn, she wanted to save her parents some money.
