The impact of a data breach affecting MediSecure eScript — an organisation which formerly handled electronic prescriptions as they were sent from prescriber to pharmacy — was confirmed by the company on Saturday. MediSecure was one of two prescription delivery services operating nationally until late last year, when the Australian Government decided to exclusively use eRx Script Exchange as its external provider for the service. That means that only personal data relating to prescriptions created before November 2023, on the MediSecure eScript system, was affected by the breach.

“We can confirm the cybersecurity incident impacts personal information and limited health information relating to prescriptions,” MediSecure said on Saturday. “Additionally, this cybersecurity incident also impacts the personal information of healthcare providers. “MediSecure is not a current participant in Australia’s digital health network.
