KASSON, Minn. — The Minnesota Department of Health has found a complaint of neglect at an assisted living and memory care facility in Kasson to be substantiated, according to the report document released Tuesday, July 2. The report, issued by MDH's Office of Health Facility Complaints, concerns a complaint made on March 19 against Prairie Meadows.
MDH investigators said in the report Prairie Meadows was responsible for maltreatment when "the facility left (a) resident lying on the floor for approximately nine hours before emergency services were contacted." The incident involved a male resident, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, in the assisted living memory care unit. According to the report, the resident had "varied mental function during the day" and was "resistive to cares.
" On the day of the incident, per the report, a staff member told the on-call nurse in the late morning that the resident "put himself on the floor and refused to get up from the floor or change position." The nurse told other staff to check the resident frequently and let him stay on the floor — the report states that the late morning progress note "note indicated the resident had a history of aggressive behavior and although he was on the floor, he was not in any danger."
