King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark have appeared with their family on the balcony of Frederik VIII's Palace, Amalienborg Castle, to mark the King's 56th birthday on May 26. This is the royal's first appearance at the palace since the coronation in January. Frederik and Mary were joined by their children and Queen Margrethe.

Queen Mary and Margrethe were both wearing vibrant pink dresses for the appearance. Crown Prince Christian, 18, wore a suit with grey tie for the appearance, while Princess Isabella, 17, chose a navy and white dress.

It has been a busy few weeks for Denmark's king and queen.  Mary most recently appeared at a fashion summit in Copenhagen, speaking about the importance of a sustainable clothing industry.

She urged guests to be more mindful about the environment and spoke of her own efforts throughout her royal life. Mary spoke of her daughters Isabella and Josephine who can now fit into the same clothes and shoes as her. ''But the age gap means they wouldn't be caught dead in them,'' she said.

"However, when they will be seen in something that is mine, it always brings a smile to my face.'.
