Laurie Thompson, executive assistant in the Public Works department, was recognized as the June Employee of the Month. Laurie fields many phone calls from city staff and concerned citizens. She is always professional and pleasant with each interaction.

Laurie was nominated because she is meticulous, thoughtful and efficient. She is also willing to go above and beyond and demonstrates a “service above self” commitment in her service to the city. She embodies the city’s core values of customer service, efficiency, excellence and honesty.

Laurie has worked for the City of Marshall since 2010 and has served in the Public Works department since 2016. When she isn’t working, she enjoys spending time with her family and camping — especially with her three granddaughters. Flag Disposal In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day, commemorating the adoption of the United States flag on June 14, 1777.

The design of the flag has been modified 26 times in its history with the current 50-star flag adopted on August 21,1959 by Executive Order of President Eisenhower. The community may dispose of faded and tattered flags at the Central Fire Station on 601 S. Grove St.
