A village post office will permanently shut next month. Maresfield Post Office in High Street, Maresfield, near Uckfield, will close for the final time on July 9 at 3pm. The Post Office said this is a result of the resignation of the current postmaster and the original premises no longer being available.

READ MORE: Islingword Post Office in Brighton to close next month A consultation was held earlier this year and there were initial proposals for the post office services to move elsewhere in the village, however the Post Office said the proposed new operator has now decided not to continue their application. This means the services will no longer open in a new branch or continue in the existing one. A spokesman for the Post Office said in a letter to customers: "We appreciate that this is very disappointing news.

"The Post Office has undertaken a comprehensive review of the network to ensure that it continues to meet evolving customer needs in a very challenging economic climate. "This review examined the network at a very detailed, local level, analysing customer demand and accessibility of Post Office products and services. "Consequently, it has informed our plans for the network as we work to ensure that, our funding and resources are allocated to deliver maximum benefit for all customers.

"At this time, therefore, we are not looking to replace Maresfield Post Office." People in the village have been advised to use two nearby Post Office branches if they need to use in-per.
