A dad who punched his teenage son after refusing to delete a picture of his teenage daughter in a bikini on Facebook has been spared jail. The father-of-three, who cannot be named for legal reasons, shared the image of his daughter, then aged 17, online in which she was wearing swimwear. A court heard the picture prompted a huge family row, with his daughter pleading with him to take it down.
After refusing to remove the image, the man's other son - the girl's brother - stepped up asking him to delete it. The dad then began recording his son on his phone as the disagreement became heated, before the man grabbed the teenager and punched him on the left side of his face. He was given a suspended sentence after pleading guilty at Naas Circuit Criminal Court , Co Kildare, to the assault on May 23, 2020.
He also admitted a separate charge of breaching a safety order. He had claimed he posted the picture as it was the only one he had of his daughter, Irish Mirror reports.
Counsel for the DPP, Daniel Boland BL, said the man's wife had also gotten involved as the row broke out outside the family home, and told the court on Thursday the family "never knew which" version of him they'd encounter. The dad had been consuming alcohol leaving his loved ones feelin.
