Friday, May 31, 2024 The Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation (MMPRC), also known as Visit Maldives, has unveiled an extensive strategy for promoting the destination in the Chinese market. Mr. Zihuny Rasheed, Deputy Managing Director of MMPRC, shared this strategy during his presentation at the ‘Maldives Media Meet,’ held alongside ITB China 2024.

During the opening remarks, Mr. Rasheed expressed pride in the Maldives being named the Indian Ocean’s Leading Green Destination by the World Travel Awards. This accolade reflects Visit Maldives’ dedication to advancing sustainable tourism.

The presentation outlined key objectives, including achieving an annual arrivals target of 2 million tourists, with a focus on the significant contribution of Chinese visitors. Enhanced connectivity, exemplified by new direct flights from provinces like Fujian and Beijing, aims to facilitate travel to the Maldives for Chinese tourists. Collaborations with entities like the Fujian Provincial Delegation further enhance cultural exchange.

Emphasizing the importance of partnerships, the presentation highlighted joint efforts between industry leaders and the governments of both nations. Future marketing endeavors for the Chinese market include a series of roadshows in various Chinese cities to strengthen ties with travel agents and media. Closing the presentation, MMPRC reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the Maldives’ esteemed brand and promoting sustainable tourism.
