A MAKEUP artist has revealed a widely accepted technique that's actually making people look older. The expert also explained why people should avoid applying makeup with their fingers in an interview with The U.S.

He explained that the common rule-of-thumb was more rule-of-dumb and aged those who followed it.

"People make the big mistake of smiling when they add on blusher," Goss said. "This is a common mistake that people do too often. Ultimately, it lifts the cheeks and what goes up, must come down at some point.

"This means the blusher will be lower than needs be, making you look older." For a youthful look, Goss recommends keeping makeup "simple and consistent." "Any make-up that is super over-the-top will imply that you’re trying to hide too much underneath," he said.
