LONDONDERRY — Mountain Town Get Down is gearing up to be a day filled with music and activities. Will Reed, board member at West River Sports Association, said the June 1 event will start at 3 p.m.

and mark the third year of hosting a fundraiser at Magic Mountain Ski Area to support youth sports in the area. More than three years ago, the concept for the event began to be developed out of a need to raise additional money to support WRSA. "We used much of the funds to replace a long overdue fleet of cross country skis that kids in our area lease for the winter season," Reed said.

"WRSA also carries the sole financial responsibility of maintaining the soccer facility in Weston." This year's event will include performances by Saints & Liars, The Mallet Brothers Band and Upstate. Included this year is another benefactor, the local non-profit Flood Brook Athletic Association.

The association is responsible for organizing youth baseball, softball, t-ball and basketball. Reed said the event also comes as the Mountain Town Recreation Department was recently created. "In a rare political consortium, the five mountain towns of Londonderry, Winhall, Weston, Peru and Landgrove all voted at Town Meeting to approve a cost sharing strategy to create a rec director position," he said.

"Among other responsibilities, this position will support all youth sports in our area." Kids' sports activities will be incorporated into the event. Reed expects to have a pitching pen, basketball hoop and m.
