Lorain was named as a top 15 city by Cleveland Magazine in a June article titled “Best Places to Live.” The article examined 71 communities surrounding Cleveland and labeled Lorain in the “top 15 cities in several important categories,” wrote Lorain Mayor Jack Bradley in a letter to City Council, which they will receive at June 17 meeting. In the category of lowest property taxes, Lorain, also known as the International City, was tied with Chardon at number 11.

Lorain also was ranked number 11 in the category of 10-year median home sale price increase, the letter stated. Lorain was ranked number nine in the category of communities with the highest percentage of roads with sidewalks. And, the city was named number one in the category of most home sales in 2023, with 716 houses sold in Lorain last year, the letter stated.

“We should be encouraged by our ranking in the top 15 in numerous categories, yet strive to do better in other categories,” Bradley wrote. “For a legacy city, the accomplishments we have made in a short period of time, are a testament to the positive attitude and dedication we all have for our city.” Based on the rankings, Bradley pointed out factors such as low property taxes, increases in home sale prices and a strong housing market over the past five years “all combine to make Lorain one of the most affordable cost of living compared to other cities in the region, making our city an attractive option for families and individuals looking to.
