Here we're looking back at some of our biggest stories of May, from a scrapyard facing closure to a new restaurant opening in Gourock. We told earlier this month how a public procession potentially featuring more than 3,000 Orange Order members is planned for Gourock. A proposal has been submitted to Inverclyde Council for the annual Boyne celebration parade, organised by the County Grand Lodge of Ayrshire, Renfrewshire and Argyll.
The march is scheduled to start at Battery Park and proceed along Eldon Street, Cardwell Road, Broomberry Drive, Barhill Road, St John’s Road, Shore Street and Chapel Street, before heading back along Cardwell Road and Eldon Street and finishing at Battery Park. An illegal caravan encampment was set up at an Inverclyde beauty spot - sparking immediate action by council officers. A total of three caravans, a motorhome and a number of other vehicles were spotted occupying a large area at Lunderston Bay.
Multiple parking bays were taken up overnight, preventing other people visiting the site from using the spaces. Inverclyde Council later confirmed that its officers had visited the unauthorised camp and asked the vehicles’ owners to move on, with the convoy leaving soon afterwards. We revealed how a Gourock scrapyard which has served the town for over six decades is facing oblivion after Inverclyde Council ordered them to quit their current site.
