One thing I have noticed since moving to Liverpool is how creative and arty the city is. Ever since I was a kid I have loved drawing, painting or anything that means being creative - not sure my mum loved it so much when she found me drawing on her walls, oops. I went on to study art and even got a degree in the arts, but found myself forgetting my hobby existed in recent years.

That was until I moved to Liverpool. The city is bursting with art everywhere you look, from murals on the side of red-bricked buildings and commissioned artworks, that brighten up what would be dull bars and restaurants without them, to thriving galleries and art exhibitions in quirky little hotspots. And the fashion is incredible - it's kind of hard not to find your creative self living here.

On just one miserable and rainy Thursday I managed to let that creativity flow and found two art exhibitions to check out. Well I can't lie I have to give the credit to my housemate who found them, but I tagged along! We met in Cafe Tabac on Bold Street after work, it's a 1974 café known for American-style breakfast, burgers and drinks with an "arty, intimate vibe" - see, even the bars describe themselves as arty - but more importantly, two for £12 cocktails and they make a delightful spicy margarita - you must check it out. After definitely more than one round of those cocktails we headed up to Liverpool John Moores University to the first arty event of the night.

Each year the level three art students host.
