Tonight England will try to make history and bring football home after nearly six decades of disappointment. It has been 58 years since the Three Lions won any silverware in any major football tournament but manager Gareth Southgate is adamant his players will make today’s shot at history count and lift the European Championship Trophy three years after losing to Italy. Spain stand in their way of taking the title for the first time, having lost their first European final in heartbreaking fashion against Italy at Wembley in 2021.

The 2020 tournament was postponed to 2021 by Covid. Southgate’s side return to that stage 1,099 days on from their crushing defeat, ready to grasp their opportunity to make history at the cavernous Olympiastadion in Berlin, Germany.
