The newest LEGO The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr set immediately catches the eye. It is an exceptionally impressive structure that looks even larger than it actually is. Moreover, it is a tribute to the source material, appealing to fans of both the movies and the books.
As a child, I grew up with The Lord of the Rings. I saw the entire original trilogy in the cinema when they were released. As a young boy, I went with my father to the cinema, even though it wasn’t allowed.
Although it is now a legendary franchise, it made an indelible impression even then. I was young, but I knew immediately that we were dealing with something special. Today, it is a billion-dollar franchise.
It is quite remarkable that it took so long for us to see a LEGO set of this theme and size. A while ago, the Rivendell set was released, and although I haven’t been able to build it myself, it is one of the most beautiful sets I’ve seen in recent years. It's high on my wish list, as soon as I have a bit more space.
Higher on the list is the Millennium Falcon, but we’ll save that for another time. LEGO The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr is as impressive as the Rivendell set. I find it notable that this time a darker theme from Middle-earth was chosen.
Perhaps I expected the Rivendell theme to continue, but with The Rings of Power on Prime Video, we saw the rise of Sauron and Mordor as important topics, and this is again the case here. The new set around Barad-dûr continues this trend. LEGO T.
