Four English students from Lee university recently presented at the Sigma Tau Delta International Centennial Convention in Saint Louis. Sigma Tau Delta, an international English honor society for graduate and undergraduate students, holds this convention annually. Lee is home to the Alpha Beta Iota chapter of Sigma Tau Delta.

The theme of the three-day convention was “In Flux,” meant to represent the state of English-related studies, which are constantly changing and evolving. Each Lee student submitted their original critical essays in fall 2023 and were accepted into the conference in December. Members of Sigma Tau Delta read their accepted submissions at the convention, followed by a Q&A session.

The selected students include Abigail Murrill, Hanna Wagers, Hallie Wielfaert and Amelia Willoughby. Ashley Mulligan, assistant professor of English at Lee, served as organizer and sponsor. “We are so proud of these four women for traveling to St.

Louis and attending this major disciplinary conference,” Mulligan said. “They stood apart from fellow scholars at peer institutions for their sharp minds and charitable spirits. They are the best examples of what we endeavor for the English major at Lee to produce: humans who can think rigorously and engage fruitfully as Christians in complexly pluralistic environments of people and ideas.
