As the music festival season rolls along, each weekend has something different to offer. Some of these extravaganzas focus on a specific style such as blues, punk, metal, jazz or folk, while others convey a wide-ranging palate to the senses. Happening at the historic Marshfield Fairgrounds on 140 Main Street in the South Shore town of Marshfield, Massachusetts, the Levitate Music & Arts Festival leans more towards the latter.

From July 5-7, this year’s edition has a diverse lineup featuring Mt. Joy, Tash Sultana, Cory Wong, G. Love & Special Sauce, Neal Francis, The Hip Abduction, Karyna Rikeman, Lee Ross and the return of Sublime with Bradley Nowell’s son Jakob serving the role of singing and guitar playing.

Another talented act taking part in the festival is Lake Street Dive, a spectacular soul-jazz act based in Brooklyn who are going to be headlining the second day at the Stoke Stage starting at 8:15pm. The band recently released a new album titled “Good Together” via Fantasy Recordings on June 21 and I had a talk with lead vocalist Rachael Price about the making of the full-length record and her thoughts on coming back to perform at Levitate. Rob Duguay: During the making of “Good Together”, it was the first time that all the members of Lake Street Dive collaborated during the initial stages of the songwriting process, so what inspired this approach? Was it relatively natural or was it more thought out? Rachael Price: It was more thought out just in the sense .
