As previously reported , using money from the state’s DRI package was an early consideration to reconstruct a new concert venue at Shepard Park into a more modern amphitheater with an “Adirondack” style, Lake George Village Mayor Ray Perry told The Post-Star . “The day after the fire, the state did suggest we throw that in the DRI,” said Dan Barusch, director of planning and zoning for Lake George. “We want to make it better,” Perry said of the amphitheater.
The design criteria will be an important aspect of the project. Initial ideas have included a state-of-the-art minimal structure that will not obstruct the view of Lake George behind it. Another addition could be a basement floor for a green room where artists can stay before performing.
“We want to listen to the artists and showrunners and sound people, especially because they’re the ones that know the design that would work best there,” Perry said. The hope is that this new amphitheater could attract bigger artists to Shepard Park. In addition to the DRI funds, the village would supplement the rest of the venue’s construction cost with money received from insurance so that there is no out of pocket expense, Barusch said.
The village is expected to receive anywhere from $500,000 to $750,000 from insurance for the destroyed amphitheater. At a recent village board meeting, officials remarked at how well the cleanup job went and the outpouring of support from people in the area. John Root, a trustee on.
