In last weekend’s edition of Saturday Travel, we published a story about overnight cabins being trialled along a closed road in Kings Park. We’ve had such a lot of response from readers glad to know about the trial that we bring it to Sunday Travel today. Three “tiny cabins” have been installed behind temporary fences on Forrest Drive, with the trial conducted while the picturesque road is closed to public traffic during the Lightscape event, from June 7 to July 28, 2024.

The single-room cabins are $495 a night, for a minimum of two nights — $990. There are barricades and “road closure” signs at both ends of Forrest Drive. With Fraser Avenue, it is the most picturesque drive in the park, with views over the Swan River.

Journalism for the curious Australian across politics, business, culture and opinion. One cabin is opposite the Firefighters’ Memorial Grove near the DNA Tower. The others are further down Forrest Drive at Dryandra Lookout and Balga Car Park in one of the most scenic parts of our “park for the people”.

Kings Park is an A-Class Reserve and its by-laws have historically stated “no one can park, stay or lodge overnight”. This is a representative sample of the large amount of correspondence we have received ..

. BEAUTIFUL NATURAL AREA I would like to say how disappointed I am to see that Kings Park is being turned into a commercial enterprise. I have felt so happy in the past that we have this beautiful natural area so thoughtfully set aside .
