Kate Garraway's daughter Darcey paid a touching tribute to her late dad, Derek Draper , at the Wimbledon final on Sunday. The oldest child of the former lobbyist, 18, attended the star-studded match in which Carlos Alcaraz beat Novak Djokovic, along with her mum, Kate, 57. Watching the Centre Court action, Darcey, 18, acknowledged her dad, who died in January after a four-year battle with long Covid, by wearing one of his distinctive white Panama hats with a black trim.
Taking to Instagram , proud mum Kate shared a series of snaps from SW19 with her daughter as her followers were quick to point out the touching tribute. Commenting on the post, in which Darcey and her mum tuck into the staple strawberries and cream at the All England Lawn Tennis Club, one asked: "Derek’s hat????" "Yes it is Derek’s hat - good spot! She wears it well doesn’t she," Kate replied. In an act of admiral bravery, Darcey volunteered to be a pallbearer at her dad's funeral at the start of the year as she helped to carry the coffin into the church, he and Kate had wed in nearly 20 years earlier.
Speaking about her daughter's "beautiful" offer, the presenter told Susanna Reid on GMB : "That was her idea. That was her, I was talking with my mum and dad, I was really conscious that the funeral should be about Derek and not about ill health. "Darcey came into the room when we were talking about it and said 'Please will you let me carry the coffin?' and I thought 'Crikey that's a practical challenge', .
