Lifestyle | Fashion In the battle for Clacton-on-Sea, Labour parliamentary candidate Jovan Owusu-Nepaul is supposed to be giving Nigel Farage a run for his money, not Harry Styles. Yet the young politician has enraptured the masses with his snappy dressing, with some now dubbing Owusu-Nepaul the “candidate for menswear”. Owusu-Nepaul was officially selected as Clacton’s Labour candidate in May.

He’s currently projected to come second in the race for his seat, with 28 per cent of the vote. Meanwhile, Farage is projected to secure a comfortable lead, with 39 per cent of the vote. However, this was before Owusu-Nepaul made waves with his fits, which look as though they’ve come fresh out of a Gucci campaign — not a political one.

From Ganni-esque sweaters and immaculate beige trench coats to embroidered green trousers and paisley ties, a series of photos of Owusu-Nepaul on the campaign trail have picked up traction over the past few days. While the candidate is also plenty impressive for his youth and experience — he’s Cambridge and Goldsmiths educated and has already represented Labour as chair of the Lewisham Deptford Constituency Labour Party (making him one of the youngest Labour chairs at the time, and the first British African/Indo-Caribbean person to hold the position) — many have been sidetracked by the Labour candidates impressive sense of style.
