A man was sentenced to 42 years and 6 months after a popular 23-year-old DJ was found dead inside a suitcase dumped in a garbage can last January. John Poulos was given a hefty sentence for the "aggravated femicide and concealment of evidence" of young DJ Valentina Trespalacios. Police say Trespalacios was throttled after an found deep grooves in her neck, which could have been caused by strangulation.

Her body was found by a member of the public, who opened a suitcase he found in a skip before making the horrifying discovery in Bogota, Colombia. He was horrified to find the young woman's body folded up inside and called police. Forensics went on to find items belonging to Trespalacios dumped alongside her body, including a student ID card from Uninpahu University, where Valentina was reportedly studying trade and global business technology.

John Poulos, 35, allegedly fled the country to Panama after police announced that they found her body. He was arrested while attempting to board a flight to another country - understood to be Istanbul, Turkey. The suspect comes from Texas and was taken into custody on January 24.

Poulos was then extradited to Colombia to face charges of femicide – A specific criminal offense in Colombia. Valentina and John had been dating for around eight months before her alleged murder on 22 January. The couple met a music event where the victim was performing as a DJ.
