Jodie Comer has been watching old videos of Cheryl as she attempts to master the Geordie accent for her latest role. She is appearing in new Danny Boyle film 28 Years Later and set in Newcastle, she needed a little inspiration. She went down a YouTube rabbit hole and stumbled across some of the singer's old X-Factor clips.
She says there was no better prep as she got into character. Having received worldwide acclaim for stage and screen roles like her star turns in Killing Eve and Help, award winning actress Josie is in the North East to shoot the movie, a sequel to 28 Days Later, which was a big hit when it was released in 2002. While not much is known about Jodie's character in the film, she has been seen in Newcastle on numerous occasions over the last month, along with Oscar winning director Danny and co-stars Ralph Fiennes and Aaron Taylor Johnson.
She has never been required to master a Geordie accent, until now and she is using Cheryl as her inspiration to get it right, more specifically, the Girls Aloud star on old episodes of The X Factor . Talking about her role in 28 Years Later, which will be set in Newcastle and getting to work with Danny, to Elle magazine , she said: "Danny just seems like such a confident, intuitive and intelligent director. The original was so loved, so I’m trying not to think of that too hard.
I’m not putting too much expectation on myself." As she continues to film 28 Years Later, Jodie has been reportedly tipped to play child serial kil.
