Jessie J has opened up about how motherhood has "changed everything". Speaking just minutes after wowing the crowd on the main stage at the Isle of White festival, Jessie opened up about how her becoming a mother has impacted her career - for the better. The 36-year-old also revealed how she hopes that some of her lyrics in her later material will help others who have or are struggling to become parents.
Jessie became a mother for the first time last year, welcoming her son Sky into the world with her partner basketball player Chanan Colman in May. Prior to giving birth, the former Voice UK coach documented her tough journey to motherhood on social media, sadly announcing that she’d suffered a miscarriage in November 2021. Speaking exclusively to the Mirror backstage at the festival, the Do It Like a Dude singer explained: “You know losing a child is the worst thing, and I hate that so many people go through it because it is such a difficult experience to get through.
And I'm so happy that I felt powerful enough to share my experience but because I know that so many people don't know how to put words in it and don't have to put feelings on it, I've even written songs about it on my album You know, because putting feelings at that into songs that can be time capsules for people to go back to and they need that moment of grief or need that moment of hope is so important."
