More info In a tragic turn of events, British teenager Jay Slater tragically died in the remote mountains of Masca. The 19-year-old, from Lancashire, lost contact with his friend on June 17 and vanished without a trace in Tenerife . The night before he had been enjoying NRG music festival with friends at the Papagayo Beach Club in Playa de las Americas.

However, just hours later, Jay found himself stranded and alone in the Rural de Teno Park, over 30km away from the party. Enclosed by towering ravines and rocky cliffs, he decided to embark on an 11-hour trek back to his hotel. Sadly, he never arrived.

His heartbroken family laid tributes near the isolated ravine where rescue workers had to cut through dense undergrowth to reach him, the Manchester Evening News . Bouquets of blue and white flowers, bearing heartfelt messages from his mother Debbie Duncan, father Warren Slater and older brother Zak, were placed on the dirt track 22 miles from the town Jay was trying to reach. His disappearance triggered weeks of intense searches by the Civil Guard and mountain rescue teams.

Four weeks later, search crews discovered the lifeless body of a man. Specialist mountain teams and police used a heli.
