The Japanese Film Festival Online 2024 kicked off on Wednesday and will run until July 3. Twenty-three Japanese films are free to stream until June 19, 11 a.m.
(Japan Standard Time), while two TV drama series will be available for streaming from June 19 to July 3. This is the third edition of The Japan Foundation's Japanese Film Festival Online — and its biggest one yet. The films, which range from the classics and drama to thriller, documentary, animation, and more, come with up to 16 subtitles.
Some of the flicks you can watch are the 1954 classic drama "Twenty-Four Eyes," comedy "The Handsome Suit" (2008), classic anime "Jungle Emperor Leo" (1966), coming-of-age drama "The Lines That Define Me" (2022), and family drama "The Lone Ume Tree" (2021), among many others. For a heart-stirring documentary, there's "I Go GaGa: Welcome Home, Mom" (2022), which follows a daughter's record of her mother with dementia and her father's undying love. Two LGBTQ+ drama films are also available for streaming this Pride Month: "I am what I am" (2022) and "BL Metamorphosis" (2022).
If you missed the Japanese Film Festival last February , then now's your chance to watch online "We Made a Beautiful Bouquet" (2021) and "Father of the Milky Way Railroad" (2023). Meanwhile, the two TV dramas that will be streamed beginning June 19 are "Downtown Rocket" (2015) and "Rikuoh" (2017).
