ALLEN PARK -- Jameson Williams has oozed superstar potential since the day he first walked into this building on one good knee, although injuries and a suspension have slowed his development. No longer slowed by injuries or suspension, that development is starting to come. Boy, is it ever.
“We’re two practices in(to OTAs),” head coach Dan Campbell said. “And if you said, ‘Give me one player that is the most improved from that start to finish in that time,’ Jamo would be that guy right now. He is a man on a mission, and I’m just going to leave it at that.
” Where has Williams improved the most? “Everywhere,” Campbell said. “Everywhere. And we’re not in pads yet.
” Just a bit of coachspeak? Or could this really, finally , be the real deal? The Lions are in the first week of OTAs, after all, and you can’t throw a rock in an NFL building this time of year without hitting someone talking about how they’re bigger or stronger or faster than ever. In the first open practice of the year, Williams burned cornerback Kindle Vildor, only to drop a beautiful deep ball from quarterback Jared Goff. We’ve seen that before, although less so down the stretch last season, when Williams put together his best weeks of football since going 12th overall in the 2022 draft.
And he saved his best for last, scoring twice in the NFC championship game in San Francisco, including taking a pitch from Goff on the fourth play of the game and slicing through the defense for a 42-y.
