Despite measures being taken to prevent a shouting match, with the format of the debate allowing each men to speak while their opponent's microphone is muted, the debate sparked an outrage as Joe Biden was heard stumbling on his words on multiple occasions. The president's struggle highlighted concerns for his physical health and cognitive sharpness with Democrats urging him to step aside. But during her chat with Alison and Dermot, Vanessa held nothing back as she weighed in on a "putrid", "pathetic" and "agonising" debate.
"This is a contest to become leader of the free world " the most responsible job on the whole planet", she pointed out. "The idea that those two specimens are the only two who are fit and should in the running for that type of unbelievably important august office is absolutely extraordinary." In another breath, Vanessa called out: "the level of debate was putrid", before expressing further frustrations: "they ended up trading infant insults as if they were the lower fourth at school.
