MT. MORRIS TWP., MI -- We’ve seen stretch limousines.

We’ve seen expensive cars, horse-drawn carriages and even a goat being taken as a prom date. But to see two prom-goers in a helicopter land just a few hundred feet in front of Beecher High School, that’s a first. As neighbors streamed onto sidewalks in the nearby neighborhood, drivers pulled over to watch.

Spectators looked up to bear witness as Beecher senior Terry Thames, 17, waved to the crowd of hundreds alongside his date, Hamady senior Zenobia Hodo, 18. “This is just so exciting to be able to do this,” Hodo said. “I’ve never been in a helicopter.

This is just so cool.” Thames said he wanted his arrival to be remembered, not only for this year, but for years to come. “To be honest, I don’t even like planes.

For real,” Thames said. “But the helicopter is pretty cool, and I love coming to prom in a helicopter.” LaToya Thames, Terry’s mother, wanted to send her son off in style for the dance.

She rented the helicopter and pilot Kaleb Brady through his company Maxflight Helicopter Service Inc., based in Grosse Ile in the Detroit area. As this prom is the last big event before graduation and life’s next chapter, LaToya Thames wanted her “one and only“ to have this memory to cherish for a lifetime.

“That’s my fly guy, so I had to bring him in flying. He’s the No. 7 in the top 10 of his class.

He’s been on the honor roll and in the honor society since he’s been in kindergarten,” .
