Tensions have been building between John and Judy Dewar, aged 81, and 77, and their neighbours Simon Bicknell and Carol McLennan over the past four years regarding their properties in Napier, on New Zealand 's North Island. The Dewars live in a seaside home that sits on a block of land owned by their daughter and son-in-law.

At the side of their home is a 100m by 20m wide stretch of grass that is owned by Mr Bicknell and Ms McLennan. On the other side of the grass is the beach. It's understood that a feud between Mr Bicknell and the Dewars' daughter and son-in-law began over the parcel of land, which resulted in Mr Bicknell putting shipping containers over the grass, blocking their sea views.
