Irish radio legend Adrian Kennedy shocked listeners of his Opinions Matters podcast with the news that he was diagnosed with cancer two months ago. Often heard on East Coast FM, Newstalk and Classic Hits, Adrian is most known for his previous work on Dublin stations 98fm and FM104. Speaking to his co-host Jeremy Dixon on the latest episode of their show Opinions Matters, Adrian gave an insight into the moment the doctors informed him ‘the results aren’t good’.
Originally going to the the doctor with an unrelated issue, it was discovered that Adrian’s PSA levels were slightly high following some tests. After attending a follow-up appointment, Adrian was stunned to be told he cancer just an hour before he was set to record a podcast. ‘I fell off the chair, the blood drained from me.
It’s the one thing nobody wants to hear, and within an hour I was sitting in this studio doing a podcast,’ he said. Reflecting on finding out the news, Jeremy said: ‘We were one of the first people that you actually texted. ‘I could even see by your message.
You were in shock by the whole thing.’ Once he and his consultants talked through his options, Adrian underwent surgery to try and remove the cancer, with his surgeons confident that it has been fully removed. ‘So this time last week I was on an operating table.
