Jono Carroll is set to travel to Russia to fight for the WBA interim super featherweight world title in Russia this summer. The 24-2-1 fighter faces undefeated former amateur star Albert Batyrgaziev, who won lightweight gold at the Tokyo Olympics and is 10-0 as a professional. Carroll is the mandatory challenger for Lamont Roach Jr's WBA world title, but with the American defending his belt against New York-based Coalisland native Feargal McCrory on June 28, 'King Kong' will now face Batyrgaziev in Serpukhov, which is located just over 100kms from Moscow.
