Brisbane Pride have celebrated another successful Queens Ball at Brisbane City Hall overnight. With the venue overflowing, the crowd celebrated the individuals and organisations that make our community shine against a backdrop of diverse, inclusive and outstanding entertainment. This years performers also shone a spotlight on inclusion within the community, celebrating performers with disabilities on the main stage.
Queens Ball 2024 celebrates the Brisbane community Over 600 people flocked to Brisbane City Hall overnight to celebrate the achievements of the Brisbane LGBTQIA+ community. Celebrating the theme of “Our History, Our Future” attendees turned up in their finest outfits to celebrate. This years nominee list represented 226 individuals and organisations, with 4750 votes cast, making it one of the most hotly contested year of the awards.
Most notably this years Drag Queen Of The Year Award featured a staggering 45 nominations, triggering a fierce amount of campaigning within the community. However ultimately the award was won by Brisbane drag darling Gayleen Tuckwood. It was another big night for the Sportsman Hotel, where Gayleen is also a resident performer.
The iconic Brisbane hotel secured yet another win for Venue Of The Year with resident DJ Merlin also taking home the DJ Of The Year Award. Taking to the stage to accept the Venue Of The Year Award, the Sportsman Hotel manager Chris White reflected on the success of the venue that has welcomed patrons for deca.
