Every Bollywood fan knows that Aamir Khan doesn’t attend award functions in India. No matter how many awards a movie of his gets nominated for, Aamir Khan never turns up at an awards show. Similarly, Aamir Khan’s nephew, actor Imran Khan, who hasn’t been active in Bollywood for years now, also doesn’t turn up at award ceremonies.
Recently, during an appearance on the podcast with comedians Sapan Verma, Raunaq Rajani and Prashasti Singh, Imran Khan was asked about the reason for the same. Imran Khan said that no one in the Khan family is obsessed with glamor as they care about the craft of filmmaking more than the glitz associated with award functions. He also said that the members of the Khan family didn’t grow up starstruck.
Answering the question, Imran Khan said, “I grew up in a family of people who dedicated themselves to the craft, but none of them were enamored by the glitz and the celebrity. What I was always taught was, ‘We take our craft seriously, we put our heart into that, the rest of it is sprinkling on the top, which you shouldn’t be enamored with.’” Aamir Khan has attended a single Indian award show since the nineties.
He has even said that commercial award shows don’t hold any value. It should be noted that Aamir Khan did attend the Academy Awards when his movie was nominated for the Best International Film category back in 2001. Imran Khan then talked about his experience of attending award shows after the release of his first movie, .
