WANT long and luscious hair but aren't sure where you're going wrong? Well, it might be down to how your washing it and the vital steps you're missing beforehand, according to a hair expert. Brand president for Philip Kingsley and Trichologist, Anabel Kingsley took to TikTok to share some top tips. Her first trick might sound simple, but forgetting to do so can cause further damage down the line.

So, always remember to detangle your hair before washing it. Anabel suggested doing this with a wide tooth comb, or even your regular hair brush, and brushing gently from your ends upwards. Next , make sure your hair is soaked right through before applying any products.

"The wetter your hair is the less product you'll have to use," the pro explained. Once your hair is drenched, the key to applying your shampoo like a pro is to lather it in your hands before gently rubbing it into the top of your head and mid-lengths of your locks. Anabel notes that she then takes this a step further and applies a second application of shampoo before massaging her scalp from underneath her hair.

"You want to get your fingers under your hair so they're properly touching your scalp," she said. Don't forget the sides of your head, your hairline and the nape of your neck during this process either. You shouldn't ever rub your hair together or pile it up on your head when washing, since the true aim of shampooing is simply to cleanse your scalp, she explained.
