Illini West and West Hancock were part of the Illinois High School Association Class 2A regional at Tremont, but rather than have both teams travel over two hours to play a game, the two matched up at Illini West in Carthage. The game was originally scheduled to be played Tuesday, May 14, but was postponed until Wednesday, May 15, due to weather. Illini West won the game in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the 11th inning, 6-5.

West Hancock and Illini West both went one-two-three in the first first inning. Jaiyden Huston reached on an error by the first baseman with one out for the only base runner in the top of the second. Jordyn Climer struck out Madilyn Boyer swinging for the first out in the home second inning.

Olivia Johnson reached on an error by the right fielder. Corin Robinson doubled to left field, advancing Johnson to third. Alivia Frazier courtesy ran for Robinson.

Natalie Wibbell popped out to third base for the second out. Payton Downs singled to the first baseman and Johnson scored for a 1-0 lead and advanced Robinson to third base. Climer closed the inning striking out Ella Shutwell swinging.

Jordyn Climer doubled to center field for West Hancock’s only hit of the third inning. Rachel James led off the Chargers’ third inning with a single to second base. James stole second.

Kaelyn Ferrill walked. Elly Krieg flew out to center field and James advanced to third after tagging up. Ferrill advanced to second on a defensive indifference.

Boyer flew out to right.
