Abilyn’s Frozen Bakery of Wilmington, MA is recalling ice cream cakes because of possible Listeria contamination. Wegmans has also posted a recall letting consumers know that the recalled Abilyn’s Ice Cream Cakes were sold at their stores. According to the company, they were informed on the evening of June 21, 2024, by their production partner, that recent testing by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has detected the presence of possible contamination on the production line that has been used to produce our Abilyn’s Frozen Bakery ice cream cakes.
The company has recalled all flavors of ice cream cake with a Best By date between April 20, 2024, and April 20, 2025. About Listeria infections Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause serious and sometimes life-threatening infections. Anyone who has eaten any of the recalled products and developed symptoms of Listeria infection should seek medical treatment and tell their doctors about possible Listeria exposure.
Also, anyone who has eaten any of the recalled products should monitor themselves for symptoms during the coming weeks because it can take up to 70 days after exposure to Listeria for symptoms of listeriosis to develop. Symptoms of Listeria infection can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and neck stiffness. Specific laboratory tests are required to diagnose Listeria infections, which can mimic other illnesses.
