James Middleton has movingly about the relationship he shared with his cocker spaniel, Ella. So powerful was the bond between the father-of-one and his dog that James has written a memoir, , which is due for release on 26 September 2024. James was 20 when he adopted Ella, and the book will document the journey the two went on for 15 years before her death last year.

Now, in a joyful new photo, ’s brother has celebrated one of Ella’s most enduring impacts on his life – his beloved dog, James, was responsible for introducing him to his family. The author took to to share a rare image, thought to be taken at Goodwoof dog festival in May, of his wife Alizée Thevenet and his young son Ingio cradling two of their family dogs amid the dappled sunlight. Middleton has attended the festival, held at the Goodwood estate, to discuss his upcoming book, and he shared a beautiful anecdote in the caption to his newly released photo.

‘This special moment is all thanks to Ella,’ he wrote. ‘Let me explain; Alizée, Inigo, and all the dogs came to hear me speak for the first time about my book Meet Ella. ‘Ella introduced me to Alizée, a few years later we got married, another year or so Inigo arrived.

Ella and Inigo never met but every moment Ella is with us. So if it wasn’t for that moment ..
