One mum has totally herself after losing 11-stone. Effy Murphy says she used to be known as 'the fat friend', however she's now a bona fide after her staggering weight loss. The blonde managed the jaw-dropping following her decision to get gastric sleeve surgery just three years ago.
From being too hefty to even be considered for a visa to New Zealand, she's now strutted her stuff and snagged runner-up in a glitzy Vegas beauty competition. Talking about her battle with her weight, the 37-year-old confessed that her addiction to food was once "ridiculous", with her diet packed with greasy eats and sugar-saturated drinks. "I could sit down and have two takeouts each day, with a bunch of garbage in between, and maybe four litres of soda per day," she revealed.
"I had severe obesity." Her large frame even threw a spanner in the works when it came to globe-trotting with her kids and ex-hubby, as the New Zealand government denied her visa app over her size, labelling it a "health risk". With a tight three-month deadline to resubmit her application, Effy got cracking on the "Shake diet" and lost three stone in no time - securing her passage to New Zealand.
But it wasn't all smooth sailing as her marriage came crashing down, and depression saw her pile back on the pounds and more. That's when she decided drastic times called for drastic measures. As of June 2019, Effy, putting down roots in Youghal, County Cork, Ireland, took the plunge and went under the knife in Turkey for a gastri.
