I'm quite adventurous with food but I don't think I've ever had the opportunity to taste Filipino cuisine before - so I jumped at the chance to try SEBU in Hull's K2 Tower. The family-run restaurant and cocktail bar opened eight months ago and this will be its first summer season. Scrolling through photos of SEBU's classy decor against the backdrop of panoramic sunsets, my first impression was that it's the perfect place to impress a date.
Being one of just a handful of restaurants in Hull with a sky bar has clear advantages, but the entrance is tucked away behind Bond Street and easily missed if you're passing by on the street. Fortunately, when I visited on a Thursday night it was busy and I got the impression its reputation as a destination restaurant is pretty solid. SEBU's impressive cocktail menu is worth studying in detail. I ordered a Black Pandan, a twist on an Old Fashioned, which arrived at the table literally smoking like a bonfire. It was very enjoyable - smooth and surprisingly boozy.
