Friends were left shocked when a woman appeared to have been punched in the face after a severe reaction to makeup left her with two swollen black eyes the day after Valentine's Day . Engaged mum-of-two Louise Smith, 36, a receptionist from Leicestershire, had previously suffered from patches of eczema on her face, particularly during the summer months. However, one severe flare-up was so extreme that it left her looking as though she had been the victim of an assault.

The situation was so dire that Louise was forced to cancel a romantic date night with her fiance and endured pain for several months. She was left wearing sunglasses for weeks in a bid to cover the swelling and avoid questions. Despite medical intervention, the treatments prescribed by doctors had no effect.

Louise said: “I’ve always had quite sensitive skin and had small patches of eczema here and there as a child and I occasionally would get a patch on my face in the hotter weather . "However, as I got older my childhood eczema stayed pretty much under control as an adult until this year for a Valentine's dinner with my fiancé I used a new eye makeup concealer which caused a chain reaction that ended up triggering the most horrendous flare of eye eczema I’ve ever experienced. "I’m usually very careful about what make up products I use and tend to stick to very plain mineral-based products as I know my skin is very sensitive.

I’ve even been able to have lash extensions over the last few years witho.
