MONTREAL -- Formula 1 is back in action on Sunday, as the best drivers from across the globe head to the beautiful Notre Dame Island for the annual Canadian Grand Prix. There is a lot of excitement and anticipation not seen in a long time heading into this weekend. For the first time in two years, three-time defending world champion Max Verstappen has looked mortal, with his lead atop the driver standings shrinking after another enthralling edition of the Monaco Grand Prix.

Monte Carlo’s own Charles Leclerc was able to outlast Verstappen and the rest of the field to be the first home driver to win the prestigious event, marking his first victory since the 2022 season. Paired with a sixth-place finish from Verstappen, and Leclerc finds himself sitting second in the standings, 31 points behind the Dutchman. Now, that is a considerable gap, given Verstappen’s track record, but with Leclerc’s recent results, non-Red Bull fans are hoping that he can pull off a miracle and challenge Verstappen for the championship.

However, it will be tough to beat Verstappen in Montreal, especially since he has won each of the last two Canadian Grand Prix. Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton was the last driver other than Verstappen to win the event, that coming back in 2019. AWS Grand Prix du Canada When: Sunday, June 9 Time: 1:55 p.
