According to Lilibet’s birth announcement, she was named for Elizabeth’s family nickname, and her middle name, Diana, “was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, the Princess of Wales.” After their grandfather King Charles’ coronation in September 2022, Lilibet and her brother, Archie, 5, were given the titles of prince and princess. In June 2022, Harry and Markle released a photo of their daughter to celebrate her first birthday, showing the world that she inherited her father’s red hair.
The birthday portrait was only the second photo the couple had released of their daughter; she was earlier featured on the family Christmas card as a baby.
